About Cynthia M. Lifson

Cynthia M. Lifson has been a mediator since 1996. While Cynthia had her own firm and practiced law since 1991, she now devotes all of her professional efforts exclusively to mediation.

Cynthia’s background as an attorney has proved to be vital to her mediation practice. Cynthia concentrates on matters related to families, to estates and trusts, and to contractual disputes. This experience makes her familiar with many of the issues and concerns of all sorts of people.

Cynthia has also had significant experience as an executive branch and legislative lobbyist in both Washington, DC and Annapolis. This type of advocacy has enhanced Cynthia’s mediation practice by requiring her to work with many people representing divergent interests to achieve reasonable compromises.

In representing citizens dealing with domestic violence before the Maryland General Assembly, Cynthia has been involved in the passage of over 70 statutes affecting Maryland’s civil and criminal laws and rules of procedure in the state courts.

Cynthia’s formal education includes her Juris Doctorate from University of Maryland School of Law, Baltimore, Maryland; Bachelor of Arts from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts; and Master of International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Washington, DC. As an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Council and the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution, Cynthia routinely refreshes her training in the field of mediation. More information about her training can be found by clicking here.
